Malawi Housing Corporation is building 230 houses in 11 districts of Malawi namely, Blantyre, Ntcheu, Lilongwe, Mchinji, Dowa, Mzuzu City, Karonga, Nkhata-bay,Mangochi and Zomba. These houses are built for the Malawi Police Service {130 houses} and the Malawi Defence Force {100}.This is within its mandate of construction of houses. Once the houses have been finalized, the Corporation will hand over the houses to Malawi government who will in turn buy the houses from the Corporation. The Corporation secured a loan of MK 2 billion from two Local Banks for the construction of these houses. The banks involved are the National Bank of Malawi and NBS Bank. These houses have been built in sites chosen by the clients and i.e Police and the Army. These houses are of 2 and 3 bedrooms. Some are Flats of 2 bedrooms.

Apart from the housing project for the Police and the Army, the Corporation is also building over 200 houses for civilians in all the cities of the country. The Corporation is again building a hostel for the University of Malawi, Chancellor College.

All the projects are scheduled to be finalized by June 2010 for handovers. The Corporation carefully selected a number of contractors with a proven track record and capacity for the delivery of this project.  Their engagement is in line with the ODPP. Some houses are being built by the Corporation using direct labour. The use of contractors enhances the speed of delivery to meet the target period. The houses being built are of high quality due to the calibre of contractors that are being used.
