How to apply for a house to rent
- Purchase of application form
- Filling of the application form
- Inclusion on waiting list
- Identification of vacant houses
- Presentation of vacant houses to the Housing Allocation Committee
- Allocation of houses by the Housing Allocation Committee
- Writing of offers.
- Individual offer to contain one month rent and two months deposit to be paid before occupation of the house.
- The offer is valid for 7 days, if the deposit and rent are not paid the house is allocated to the next applicant on the waiting list
- The individual signs the tenancy agreement and two passport size photos are required
- Rentals are due on the first day of the month and tenants are expected to pay rentals on month to month basis
How to apply for Plot
Applicants apply for plots by filling a form designed for plot applications at a fee depending on the area applied for. The applicant has to attach a photo on the application form. If the applicant lives outside Malawi they must attach a copy of Malawian passport. Plots are only sold to Malawian citizens. All fees are non-refundable.

- Allocation of plots by the Plots Allocation Committee
- Writing of offers.
- The offer contains payments term. The individual pays 50% of the total amount within 30 days and the balance to be settled within 5 months.
- After full payment the lease is processed by the Legal Department
- The lease is prepared in duplicate and it is sent to the individual for signing then it is processed.
- The lease is sent to the registrar's office for processing
- The individual is given a 1 year grace period to start developing the plot
- If the plot is not developed, it is repossessed by the corporation and offered to the next individual on the waiting list
- Once an individual has leased a plot, he is expected to pay yearly ground rentals to the Corporation
