MHC INVESTS K12M IN CHITAWIRA HOSTEL
26/10/11

The Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) has invested K12 million into the renovation of a girls hostel in Chitawira, Blantyre.

MHC acting regional manager for the Southern Region Esther Mtenje said the 14-room hostel will be rent out to the Polytechnic and students from other colleges when completed.

"Renovations are almost over. Electricity and water supply are being looked into," said Mtenje of a building that used to house UDF zone offices.

She said the hostel will take 28 girls based on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The initiative, according to Mtenje, is part of the parastatal's drive to broaden its revenue base.

"MHC seeks to be focused and work on broadening business operations to retain and bring forward customers" she stated.

Another hostel has been constructed close to Chancellor College in Zomba.

MHC management has since described the move as part of their plans to increase revenue' collection through rentals.
